1. Active listening. A good coach is someone who’s willing to listen to his clients. There is no way that you’ll be able to offer these people with the best solutions to their problems if you don’t have in-depth knowledge about the things that they’re going through. So, before you even lay down your action plans, encourage these people to talk about their pressing issues in details first and make sure that you give them your undivided attention. Ask questions if you’re not getting a clear picture of what they’re saying and jot down the most important information. You can use the information that you’ve gathered in formulating the best solutions or recommendations.

2. Expertise. It’s not enough that you know a lot of things about your chosen niche. In order to become a more effective coach, you must be an expert. You must know the ins and outs of your chosen field. You must have the right answers to all the possible questions of your clients and you must know all the best remedies to their problems. Remember, your clients will pay you simply because they would like to get in-depth, solid, and useful information.

3. Develop high level communication skills. As a coach, you’ll be spending a lot of your time talking to your clients. These people will expect you to make them understand the reasons why they are having a particular problem and how they can resolve it. Thus, it’s very important that you know how to communicate very well. You must know the right words to choose all the time and you must know how to get your message across in a very easy to understand manner.

4. Focus on the needs and demands of your clients. Don’t waste the precious time of these people by simply giving them guides and information that are targeted to their needs and demands. Make them feel that you have created your coaching programs with them and their needs in mind. They’ll surely appreciate you more for doing so.

5. Build personal relationship with your clients. Getting the trust of your clients is very important in this field. You need to get these people to like and trust you. This way, you can be assured that they’ll be more receptive of your ideas. Aside from sharing your expertise with them, I would also recommend that you spend some time knowing them on a personal level. Talk about the things that you have in common and show them that you’re there to help them out. These things should help you make these people more comfortable with you.
